Connects to the Redis server and sends PING. The reply PONG confirms that Redis is running and listening on that host and port. Connection refused points to a stopped service or a different port, NOAUTH to a configured password.

Note: With password protection, set the environment variable REDISCLI_AUTH instead of using -a, so the password does not end up in the process list and the shell history.
