Check maintenance mode for status 503 and Retry-After

Adjust the values, the command updates live
user@server
curl -s -o /dev/null -D - https://example.com/ | grep -iE '^(HTTP/|retry-after:)'

Shows the status line and the Retry-After header. During maintenance, the server should send 503 Service Unavailable so that search engines come back later and do not index the maintenance page. A maintenance mode returning status 200 can, in the worst case, get the maintenance page into the index.

Note: The built-in WordPress maintenance mode sends 503. Many maintenance plugins can be switched to 503 but return 200 by default.
