Show installed RAM modules and free slots

root@server
dmidecode -t memory | grep -E '^\s+(Size|Type|Speed|Locator|Manufacturer|Part Number):'

Shows size, type such as DDR4, speed, manufacturer and part number for each slot (Locator). Empty slots show Size: No Module Installed. Useful before an upgrade or to clearly identify a faulty module in the data center.

Note: On virtual servers, the emulated firmware only returns placeholder values. If the command is missing: apt install dmidecode.
